Scorer’s Table: Roy Needs Another John Henson

1. The discussion is about the shot John Henson had blocked with :07 left in the Kentucky game, and how he hung his head rather than foul when Kentucky took control of the ball. That was a legitimate lapse. But it shouldn’t overshadow his defensive effort. As usual he was all over the place, helping out his teammates when the Wildcat players got by them. While he was in the game Kentucky averaged 1.02 points per possession. When he went out of the game Kentucky averaged 1.78. Too bad Roy doesn’t have two John Hensons, or one that could play 40 minutes a night.

2. I’m not sure how many of the 5,765 listed attendees were actually in theri seats at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah yesterday, but the ones who were got a show. Weber State, a heavy favorite, needed a Damian Lillard three in the waning seconds to send the game into overtime. Lillard – the leading scorer in the nation – scored 6 in the first overtime and assisted the only other made basket. He scored 9 in the second overtime and iced the game with a steal. He scored a career high 41 by going 7-10 on 2s, 6-11 on 3s, and 8-9 from the line.

3. Boston College is bad. No adjectives or adverbs are needed when discussing their season. Yesterday is was Boston University’s turn and BU won 75-61. In 8 games BC has yet to score a point per possession, and in five of those games they’ve given up more than a point per possession. The ACC has played 89 games this season and BC has 4 of the 13 worst offensive performances, and 3 of 13 worst defensive performances.

4. Marquette handed Wisconsin its second straight loss, 61-54 in a 63 possession game, ending the Badgers’s 23 game home winning streak. This means the Badgers still haven’t allowed a point per possession and they’ve played the 6th, 9th, and 31st best offenses in the nation. The two losses resulted from poor 3-pt shooting: 13-47 (27.7%).

5. With 10 minutes left in the game Xavier trailed Purdue by 19. At the four minute mark they trailed by 9. Then in seven possessions they scored 15 points, while holding Purdue to 3. You can call it a comeback.
