Sooner or later: when will Pitt and Syracuse jump to the ACC?

Years ago, a friend (who I won’t name named Dave) told me he was getting divorced. Being the pragmatic one I drilled him on the nuts and bolts of how to go about it. On the topic of who was moving out, he told me that they were going to live together until he found a place.

“Done,” I said. “My couch is yours. Sleep there until you find a place.”

“Well……” he said, and immediately I recognized his pussy voice.

What he meant was that he and his (ex) wife would end up living together – while divorcing – for another three months.

It was stupid. And everyday I told him that. And by “everyday” I mean hourly. I was that guy. But I was right. Move on, my man, it’s already been decided.

Which, of course, brings us to Pitt, Syracuse, and the ACC.

Andy Katz reported today that neither Pittsburgh nor Syracuse would be attending the Big East meetings. But they (as in Pitt and Syracuse) will be at the ACC meetings. Which takes balls – seeing that they aren’t in the ACC. There’s zero chance anything could happen before football season, and according to the Big East, there’s zero chance anything could happen in under two years. The conference bylaws, after all, call for a 27-month waiting period before anyone is “allowed” to leave the Big East, and these teams served notice just a few months ago.

Why aren’t Pitt and Syracuse attending the Big East meetings? Because that relationship has already been decided.

“Hopefully, we’ll get everything worked out here soon,” Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said. “Their league is reconfigured and ready to move, and when you get to that point where everybody is on the next page, everybody should move on.”

Hear that Dave?
