Inside the boxscore: Miami 78, FSU 62

1. FSU is now 10-4 in the ACC with two games to play. Last year the Seminoles beat NC State in the final game of the regular season to finish with 11 ACC wins for the first time since 1992-93. With a win at Virginia or vs Clemson the Noles will have at least 11 ACC wins in back to back seasons for the first time since 1991-92 and 1992-93. Since full expansion of the ACC (adding BC in 2005-06) the Seminoles have won the 3rd most ACC games, and have a 5 game lead over Maryland. Only Duke and UNC have won more.

2. Leonard Hamilton has repeatedly stated in recent weeks that he needs to find more minutes for Jon Kreft. Against Miami Kreft played 3. It was the fewest minutes he’s received in any game of his Seminole career. Since FSU switched to a 3-guard lineup they are 7-0 when Kreft plays at least 10 minutes, and 4-5 when he doesn’t.

3. FSU entered Sunday’s game as the top 3-point shooting team in ACC play. Against Miami they made 5-23 (21.7%). It was FSU’s worst 3-point shooting game in conference, and their worst overall since the Michigan State game (20.0%). It’s been over a year since FSU shot worse in conference play. On February 6, 2011 they made 19% against UNC. FSU is now tied for the best 3-pt% with Virginia Tech. Both teams have attempted 238 3s and made 85.

4. Miami scored 78 points in a 71 possession game, or 1.10 per possession. That is the 5th time this season that FSU has allowed more than a point per possession in conference play. FSU only allowed three conference opponents to score more than a point per possession in conference play last year. But still, this defense is performing better than last year’s version. The Noles allowed 0.948 in conference play last year, and have allowed 0.946 this year. Miami, meanwhile, has exceeded a point per possession on offense in 9 of their past 10 games. The only time they didn’t reach that mark was in their February loss in Tallahassee.

5. Miami made 9-20 3s on Sunday (45%). They’ve exceeded that mark three times all season and once in conference play. Three teams have made at least 45% of their 3s against FSU this season, and all three have come in the past six games.
