This week in extreme polling: Toni Ginnetti (Chicago Sun Times)

Written by Michael Rogner on 06 February 2012.

The week's winner of the Feinstein Award for shitty ballotting goes to Toni Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun Times. As always, thanks to the great site Pollspeak for making this feature possible.

6. Duke. Duke is on every ballot. 64 of 65 have them lower than Ms. Ginnetti (I'm assuming she's a she. Dudes don't spell their names with an 'I' at the end). She has Duke ranked higher than North Carolina. UNC has 3 losses, all on the road, to teams ranked 1, 18 and 20 in the Ginnetti's. Duke has four losses, two at home, to teams she ranked 4, 18, unranked and unranked. Both teams have their best win against Michigan State on a neutral floor.

11. Kansas. 61 of 65 (94%) voters have Kansas ranked better than 11th. Only Jack Bogacyzk of the Charleston Daily Mail in South Carolina have them ranked lower.

13. Indiana. 20% of voters don't have Indiana ranked at all, and no one has them as high as Ginnetti. The Hoosiers are 3-5 in their last 8 games. This week they were 1-1 with a loss at #19 Michigan and a win at Purdue, and Ginnetti moved them moved UP two spots. Meanwhile, Virginia also went 1-1, with a win over Clemson and a loss at #18 Florida State and Ginnetti dropped them from 11th to off her ballot.

15. Wisconsin. Ginnetti has Wisconsin ranked higher than 91% of the AP voters, and I have no problems with this.

20. UNLV. See Wisconsin. Change "higher" to "lower" and "91%" to "94%".

23. Kansas State. 64 of 65 voters did not include K-State on their ballot, and 64 of 65 voters were correct in that choice. Let's examine their resume in relation to Virginia, who did not make Ms. Ginnetti's ballot. K-State has one win over a top-25 Ginnetti team (#3 Missouri). They have six losses, one of them to a team in her top-25 (#11). Virginia has one win over a top-25 Ginnetti team (#18 Michigan). They have four losses, two of them to teams in her top-25 (#s 6 and 18). Makes great sense.

25. Creighton. 95% of the voters have the Blue Jays ranked higher. I probably would too, but not by much. No real qualms here.

Unranked. Virginia. See '13. Indiana' and '23. Kansas State'.
