Inside the Boxscore: FSU 90, UNC 57

1. The margin of victory (90-57) was 33 points, which was the largest of Roy Williams’ tenure at UNC. It was the 2nd largest margin of victory in FSUs ACC history, having won by 36 against Virginia in 1994. And it was the most points scored per possession (1.20) by FSU against any opponent since Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2009. UNC scored 0.76 per possession, 20.1% lower than their previous low this season (0.96 against Michigan State on an aircraft carrier).

2. FSU nearly shot 50% for the game (48.9%). They shot 18-35 (51.4%) on 2s, and 12-27 (44.4%) on 3s. That adds up to an eFG% of 58.1%. UNC entered the game allowing a defensive eFG% of 43.6%, which was 28th in the nation. 58.1% is the highest allowed by UNC since they got bounced from the NCAA Tournament last season by Kentucky. And FSU hasn’t made more than 12 3s in a game since December 8th, 2007 (against Maine).

3. Deividas Dulkys, as they say, went off. He always fills the intangibles statsheet so it’s no surprise that he had 4 assists, 4 steals, a block and only one turnover. But the points were special. He made 8-10 3s and 4-4 2s on his was to a career best 32 points. His previous career high was 22 versus FIU last season, and that was the only game he’s ever scored 20 or more. In his three prior seasons at FSU he’s always had at least one prolonged shooting slump, and this year was no different. Entering the UNC game he was on a 5-29 slide (17.2%) which had knocked his 3-pt% from 48% to to 32% on the season. After today’s game he’s raised it to 39.4%.

4. UNC recorded 8 assists, which is their season low. Kendall Marshall led the team with 4 (his season low). On the day versus Florida State’s defense they generated an assist on 36.7% of their made baskets, which is a little more than half of their season average (60.3%).

5. UNC turned the ball over 22 times in a 75 possession game, or 29.3% of their trips. Their previous season high for turnovers was 17, and it’s the most North Carolina has had since Kendall Marshall became their point guard. UNC entered the game turning it over on 16.5% of their possessions, which was 1st in the ACC (next closest team is Miami at 56th nationally) and 10th in the nation.
