Rumeal Robinson was arrested on this day in 2009. Robinson, a native of Jamaica, was charged with 11 counts, including bank bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution. A year later he was convicted in federal court of borrowing more than $700,000 for a sham business deal in Jamaica and then spending the money on a condominium, expensive furniture and cars. He received a sentence of 6 1/2 years in federal prison, of which he must serve a minimum of 85%.

Robinson starred at the University of Michigan, where he led them to their only National Title in 1989.

Sid Tannenbaum was murdered on this date in 1986. Tannebaum, who had been a two-time All-American at NYU, owned at operated a store in Far Rockaway, Queens. His son described him as an unofficial social worker and when he declined to loan a street woman money, she stabbed him in the back, killing him. He was 60.
