About time: Larry Bird gets statue at Indiana State

In 1979 the Sycamores of Indiana State finished as runner-up in the NCAA tournament, losing to Michigan State and Magic Johnson. Indiana State, of course, was led by Larry Bird. In the 34 seasons since then, the Sycamores have won exactly one Missouri Valley Conference title, two MVC tournament titles, and have been the the NCAA tournament three times.

With Larry Legend as an alum, you'd think the Sycamores would do a better job promoting that fact. Until now, they haven't, but that all changes tomorrow.

The Larry Bird Scholarship Dinner will be held tomorrow evening, and it will establish a scholarship fund for the school. Then, the next morning, a 15' tall statue of Bird will be unveiled immediately before Indiana State takes on Ball State in their season opener.
