Happy birthday ACC

The ACC turns 60 today. It was in 1953 that a bunch of teams got together and decided to bail on the Southern Conference. The original seven teams were Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina and Wake Forest. Seven months later they decided to let Virginia join.

According to development experts, old age begins at 60. That's when bone tissue begins to decline, brain cells stop communicating as effectively, and chronic diseases become common.

Sounds about right.

On a side not, the conference does have four head coaches who are older than the conference: Jim Boeheim (68), Mike Krzyzewski (66), Leonard Hamilton (64), and Roy Williams (62); and one coach – Tony Bennett – who teaches a style that's very popular in 60-and-over leagues.

Happy birthday ACC! Get your party on.
