1. Joe Jackson, Memphis' leading scorer, scored 20 against the Volunteers. That gives him 42 points in the past tow games, and he's only taken 15 shots. He's made 7-11 2s, 3-4 3s, and 19-23 FTs. His offensive rating is now 118.6 which is far above where he was last year as a sophomore (105.2).
2. The Tigers interior defense is getting it done this season. They've blocked 14.8% of opponents 2-point attempts, which is 10th best in the nation. They had 11 blocks vs Tennessee, which is their season best and the most they've had since last January. D.J. Stephens tied his career high (set two games ago) with five.
3. Memphis has been an average 3-point shooting team (122nd nationally), but against Tennessee they made 7-11 (64%). It was the first time they've made over half their attempts in a game this year.
4. Tennessee was called for 19 fouls, including 5 to senior Skylar McBee. It was the 2nd time in 109 career games that McBee fouled out.
5. Memphis scored 85 points in 70 possessions. The 1.23 points per possession eclipsed the previous season worst by the Volunteers of 1.10 vs Kennesaw State. It was the 2nd worst defensive performance since Cuonzo Martin became head coach.
