February 14 Rebound

A wild night in college basketball saw a triple double by Kahlil Felder of Oakland, double OT in the Ivy, OT in the Horizon and the insanity that was Arizona/Arizona State.

Arizona St 69 (19-6, 8-4) (2) Arizona 66 (23-2, 10-2) – 2 OT

This game had an insane finish so let's get right to it. After standing in the left corner seemingly forever from the last 10 minutes, the first OT and most of the second, Jermaine Marshall drilled a 3. After a pair of Kaleb Tarczewski free throws, Marshall hit another 3 to tie the score. Aaron Gordon drew a foul with 36 seconds left, making 1. Marshall came back with a layup with 15 seconds left. TJ McConnell went to the basket but his shot from the free throw line area was blocked in mid-air by Jordan Bachynski. Instead of running the game out, Jahii Carson dunked. Carson hung on the rim a solid 5 seconds while the crowd rushed the court, even though there was time remaining. No technicals were called for some reason. Nick Johnson had a shot to tie that was similar to the shot Tyler Ennis made against Pitt. Unlike that shot, this one wasn't good.

For the longest time, this was not a great game. The second overtime saw actual shot making, which made it very exciting. I don't know why there were no techs called though. Hanging on the rim and storming the floor are against the rules. Yet, nothing. Odd.

Jermaine Marshall scored a game high 29 for the Sun Devils on 11 of 23 shooting, 4 of 8 from 3 and 3 of 6 from the line. Jahii Carson had 17 on 7 of 17 with 6 assists against 6 turnovers and 4 boards. Jordan Bachynski had 13, 8 blocks and 7 boards. Arizona got 17 for TJ McConnell on 7 of 15. He had 2 assists and 6 turnovers. Nick Johnson had 14 on 5 of 20 shooting. His worst two games have been in the two losses. Kaleb Tarczewski and Aaron Gordon posted double doubles of 13-13 and 13-10 respectively.

(13) Louisville 82 (20-4, 9-2) Temple 58 (6-17, 1-10)

This game wasn't going Temple's way and then there was a Louisville run that took the game from 30-18 to 52-22 in the first half. That's 22-4 if you aren't mathematically inclined. Montrezl Harrell scored a career high 22 points for Louisville on 9 of 16 shooting. 6 of his baskets were dunks. He had 10 rebounds and 4 blocks as well. Russ Smith had 15 on 7 of 10, Wayne Blackshear 13 and Luck Hancock 11. Temple shot 37.3%. Will Cummings had a team best 16 on 4 of 10.

(23)SMU 77 (20-5, 9-3) Rutgers 65 (10-15, 4-8)

The Mustangs took care of business by shooting 49% and hitting 8 threes. They held Rutgers to 3 of 14 from 3 and 41% shooting overall. Nic Moore led the Mustangs with 21 points on 5 of 9 from 3 and 6 of 6 at the foul line. Nick Russell had 16 and 5 boards. Cannen Cunningham added 10-8 off the bench. The Rutgers duo of Myles Mack and Kadeem Jack combined for 33 points but on 10 of 28 shooting.

ATLANTIC SUN

Mercer 79 (20-6, 11-2) Lipscomb 48 (11-14, 6-8)

The Bears shot 50% and hit 10 threes while holding Lipscomb to 24.6% the other way. Langston Hall had 20 points.

Kennesaw St 69 (5-21, 2-11) Northern Kentucky 67 (8-18, 4-10)

Bernard Morena (2 points) hit a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left for the lead. Myles Hamilton got a steal, got fouled, made the first, missed the second and that was the game.

North Florida 79 (14-13, 8-6) Jacksonville 74 (9-16, 5-9)

HORIZON

Oakland 83 (10-17, 5-7) Detroit 82 (12-15, 5-7) – OT

Travis Bader, the NCAA career leader in made 3s, hit a 3 with 26 seconds left to send this into OT. Duke Mondy scored a put back on an offensive rebound with 11 seconds left for the deciding bucket. Bader scored 30 on 8 of 13 from 3. Kahlil Felder of Oakland had a triple double with 15 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds. Juwan Howard Jr scored a game high 33 for Detroit.

IVY

Harvard 88 (19-4, 6-1) Columbia 84 (14-10, 3-4) – 2 OT

This had a wild ending in regulation. Columbia scored a layup, Harvard answered with free throws. Columbia scored on free throws, Harvard got a tip in with 24 seconds left to force OT. Only 10 points were scored during the first OT. 1 of them was a free throw from Harvard's Wesley Saunders that would ultimately send the game to OT. Harvard scored the first 4 of the second OT. Up 2, Laurent Rivard drilled a 3 with a minute left to spark a 6-0. That was more than enough.

Steve Moundou-Missi had the tip in for Harvard in regulation. He had 22-8. Siyani Chambers also had 22 for the Crimson. Alex Rosenberg scored 34 for Yale. Maodo Lo had 20-5-5.

Yale 69 (12-9, 6-1) Penn 54 (6-14, 3-3)

The Bulldogs got 25-7-4 blocks-3 steals from Justin Sears and 17 for Armani Cotton to stay tied with Harvard atop the Ivy.

Princeton 69 (14-6, 2-4) Brown 65 (12-9, 4-3)

The Red Foxes scored 5 points in the last 7 seconds. Chavaughn Lewis scored a layup, then Jay Bowie (10 pts) stole the inbound from Brett Bisping and made a 3 for the win. Big time. Lewis had 14-7-6 assists-4 steals.
