Utah Gives Larry Krystkowiak Five Year Extension

Via BlockU, Utah has given coach Larry Krystkowiak a 5 year deal paying him $1.4 million per year. Krystkowiak’s improvement since coming from the NBA ranks (he is a former Nets and Bucks assistant as well as Bucks head coach) has been nothing short of remarkable. He went just 6-25 in his first year featuring mostly holdovers from the old regime, and then posted a 15-18 season in his second year before finishing 21-12 this season.

His improvement analytics wise has been great as well. Utah was 297th in KenPom in his first year, then finished at 108 and 42 in the previous two seasons.

Krystkowiak will have to deal with expectations this year: with Utah returning virtually everybody and welcoming in probably the 4th or 5th best recruiting class in the Pac 12. Utah led the Pac 12 in two point shooting last year, despite finishing 6th offensively, and were the 3rd best team in the league.

Krystkowiak currently has an 84-75 record between Montana and Utah.
