Jerry Jones salutes Rams for trading to No. 1

When Jerry Jones gives you the thumbs-up, you know you’ve done something big.

The Cowboys owner complimented the Rams for trading up from No. 15 to No. 1 in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft.

“I was surprised, but knowing the organization I’m not surprised. They’re really showing their colors,” Jones told Todd Archer of ESPN.com.

The Rams are moving from St. Louis to the high-profile Los Angeles market. Considering the market where Jones operates, his words mean something.

At the same time, Jones might have thrown the Rams a little shade. When talking about all the draft picks the Titans received (the Rams’ first-round pick, two second-rounders and a third-rounder this year along with the Rams’ first- and third-rounders next year) Jones said “I didn’t know that Herschel Walker was still around.”

Was he hinting that ultimately the Titans will get the better of the deal like the Cowboys did when they traded Walker to the Vikings for a bounty of draft picks in 1989?

However it turns out, the trade makes the draft a lot more intriguing. After weeks of Mississippi offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil topping just about every mock draft, now we could have a Coke-Pepsi debate between Carson Wentz and Jared Goff and a lot of teams (including the Cowboys) clamoring to trade up for the opportunity to draft whichever one of those quarterbacks is left.
