Cowboys to host RB Alfred Morris

The Dallas Cowboys could look to a division rival to bolster the team’s running back position.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cowboys are planning to host free-agent running back Alfred Morris—who rushed for over 1,000 yards for three straight seasons with the Washington Redskins—on an official visit next Monday.

Morris, 27, burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2012, rushing for 1,610 yards and 13 touchdowns. He produced two more 1,000-yard seasons before failing to hit the milestone for the first time in 2015.

A former sixth-round pick, Morris has never missed an NFL game over four seasons. He’s also been a thorn in the Cowboys’ side.

His 710 rushing yards and seven touchdowns against Dallas are both career highs against a single opponent. He rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns in a win over the Cowboys as a rookie, and one of his two 100-yard rushing games in 2015 came against Dallas.

Morris could be a nice fit as a complementary piece of the Cowboys’ rushing puzzle.

A one-cut, hard-nosed runner, Morris has a career rushing average of 4.4 yards per carry. He’s struggled at times in recent years, but taking handoffs behind the Cowboys’ dominant offensive line could reignite a once promising career.

Heading to Dallas will represent Morris’ first visit since hitting the open market.

Over 64 career games, Morris has rushed for 4,713 yards and 29 touchdowns, with 47 receptions.
