Brandon Phillips accuses Pirates of racism

This came to my attention this morning after reading a piece on Getting Blanked by Dustin Parkes, where he noted that Brandon Phillips of the Reds accused a mystery Pirate of racism during Monday's game between the two teams. After the game, Phillips tweeted this out:

This is obviously a serious allegation, and Phillips' main issue apparently came after he was hit by Pirates reliever Jared Hughes in the eighth inning. Check out the video below.

After Hughes plunked Phillips, the All-Star second baseman flips the ball back to the mound, and Hughes starts jawing with Phillips…well, jawing at Phillips, because the Reds star ignored him. Umpires got involved and warned both benches. After the inning, Phillips and Pirates star Andrew McCutchen had a brief discussion about the incident, which was apparently retaliation for McCutchen and Josh Harrison of the Pirates getting hit in a prior series.

At any rate, if what Hughes was shouting at Phillips was indeed a racist comment, there should be a punishment handed down. I know it probably happens more than it should, but there's no reason for that at any time. On another note, how about Phillips keeping his cool after getting hit and not turning the incident into a brawl? He's had an issue with being hot-headed in the past, and this is a step in the right direction for him, at least.
