Bill Parcells praises Patriots rookie QB Jacoby Brissett

If Bill Parcells is to be believed, the Patriots might have landed themselves another hidden quarterback gem in the draft.

The former Patriots coach gave the thumbs-up to Jacoby Brissett, who the Patriots drafted in the third round out of North Carolina State.

“He’s a Curtis Martin, Willie McGinest, Troy Brown type player. That’s the kind of guy he is. That’s what New England is getting,” Parcells told the Boston Herald.

Parcells, who saw Brissett play in high school, also brought up Tedy Bruschi. So Parcells is basically saying that the 6’4″, 231-pounder has the makeup of a Hall of Famer as well as some key pieces of the Patriots’ three championship teams in the early 2000s.

Brissett, who played two years at Florida before transferring to N.C. State, threw 46 touchdown passes in college and just 15 interceptions. He never threw more than six interceptions in a season.

The Patriots chose Tom Brady 199th overall in 2000. Brissett was taken with the 91st pick. So Brissett might not sneak up on the rest of the league as much as Brady did. But at the very least it looks like Jimmy Garoppolo has some competition in the race to take the baton from Brady whenever that time comes.
