Jason Verrett has played his last down of 2016.
The San Diego Chargers cornerback told reporters Wednesday that he will have surgery on the partially torn ACL in his left knee and his season is over.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Verrett played the past two games with the injury. He met with doctors Wednesday, who determined the injury was severe enough to shut him down for the rest of the season.
Verrett, 25, made the Pro Bowl last year and has quickly developed into one of the best cover corners in the NFL. However, the former first-round pick of the 2014 draft has struggled to stay healthy. Verrett missed 10 games his rookie season due to a hamstring injury and a torn shoulder labrum that required surgery.
The Chargers have had it rough with injuries to key players this season. Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead and Manti Te’o were all lost for the year.
