With New York Knicks training camp set to get underway, it was only a matter of time before the media got Derrick Rose in front of a microphone to ask him about allegations and investigations.
Rose faces sexual abuse allegations and a civil lawsuit, with the Los Angeles Police Department recently entering the fray.
Rose spoke about the situation with USA Today‘s Mike Coppinger:
“I haven’t talked to anyone (from the LAPD) and this is my first time hearing about (the investigation),” Rose, a former Chicago Bulls No. 1 overall pick, said on the eve of Knicks training camp. “Once again, I’m not worried about it. I feel like I haven’t done anything wrong.
“ … I can’t think about the case that I feel like I’m innocent in. I feel like I didn’t do anything wrong. And I can’t let that distract me from the year that I have ahead of me.”
The LAPD mention is a new development, though, and confirmed. This means the department has an open criminal investigation on Rose, a much more serious issue than the highly publicized civil suit.
Rose seems calm now, though the LAPD revelation adds another layer to a convoluted story without a predictable outcome. His civil trial begins October 4.
