Giants could use wide receiver at safety vs. Vikings

The Giants are hurting in the secondary. It’s getting so bad that wide receiver Dwayne Harris might have to play safety.

Harris and practice-squad players Darius Powe and Geremy Davis practiced at the position Thursday, according to NJ.com, with Darian Thompson (foot) and Nat Berhe (concussion) sitting out.

Thompson is expected to miss Monday night’s game at Minnesota. Berhe and cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin) and Eli Apple (hamstring) also could be out. Both missed practice Thursday.

Landon Collins and Andrew Adams were the Giants’ only two healthy safeties Thursday.

If he’s pressed into duty at safety, Harris’ training consists of four defensive snaps in middle school and his tackling duties on special teams.

Odell Beckham Jr. has more recent experience at safety. He played there a little at the Pro Bowl. While it’s unlikely Beckham will be hitting ball carriers (or another kicking net) on Monday night, Giants coach Ben McAdoo told the New York Post “never say never.”

The Giants better hope that the extra day of preparation for Monday’s game works wonders for their health, because they’ll be up against a 3-0 team in a loud stadium.
