If you were watching the Colts and Patriots square off on Sunday Night Football, you may have witnessed one of the worst special teams plays of all-time.
While it wasn’t as bad as Jim Zorn and the Redskins’ “Swinging Gate” play from back in 2009, which you can watch here, it was still laughable.
We’re not exactly sure what the Colts’ intent was on the play, but the most logical conclusion is that they were trying to draw the Patriots offside.
The Colts were faced with a fourth-and-3 situation from their own 37-yard line, trailing by six points, and they elected to run what looked to be a trick play. They lined up in an unbalanced formation, with punter Pat McAfee split out to the right. Wide receiver Griff Whalen was set to snap the ball to safety Colt Anderson, which isn’t something you normally see.
We’re going to assume that Whalen wasn’t supposed to snap the ball, but he did. The result was laughable, and you need to watch it to really get a grasp on how bad the play was.

Here’s another angle to show what it looked like under center.
There’s no way this results in anything but what it did, you have to get out of it. Whatever “it” is pic.twitter.com/cZEScLTWwN — The Cauldron (@TheCauldron) October 19, 2015
After that embarrassing play, Chuck Pagano’s seat just got even hotter.
