Isaiah Thomas shoots hoops with 14-year-old, gives him Celtics tickets

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas has provided the feel-good story of the week.

Thomas was walking around with his wife when he saw a kid shooting hoops on his own. Rather than respect it and keep walking, Thomas decided to join in and make the kid’s day.

The Boston Globe‘s Adam Himmelsbach captured the story:

“He was the only kid there,” Thomas said. “So I’m like, ‘I’m just going to go get some shots up with him.’ When I walked over, he rebounded his own shot and turned around and I’m like, ‘Can I get a couple shots?’ And he stopped. He didn’t even say a word, like his eyes were so big. He just stopped and froze and I’m like, ‘Pass me the ball.’ ”

The boy, Robbie McNulty, captured the moment on Instagram:

But it gets better—Monday, Thomas shot a recorded video on Good Morning America, inviting him to a Celtics game this year.

ABC News transcribed some of the video:

“What’s up Robbie? It’s Isaiah Thomas. Thanks for letting me shoot hoops with you the other day. Keep working on that jumper,” the NBA star said. “I know we talked about this upcoming season and I’d like to invite you to one of my games as my guest. See you at the [TD] Garden.”

Kudos to Thomas for the special moment, which many in his place might not have considered.

Alongside his special memory, McNulty will get to be a part of the Celtics’ season next year as the team looks to make another postseason appearance and perhaps contend for a title.
