Jerod Mayo says he’s retiring from NFL

New England Patriots veteran linebacker Jerod Mayo is calling it quits and hanging up his cleats for good, it seems.

After eight years with the team, the 29-year-old took to Instagram on Tuesday night and posted the following message.

This isn’t a huge surprise, as the team declined to pick up his $11.4 million option for 2016. Mayo has now finished each of the last three seasons on injured reserve, and has battled multiple injuries.

The All-Pro linebacker was as consistent as they come and rarely missed a tackle. He racked up 803 of those during the course of his career, recorded 11 sacks and picked off three passes as well.
