And the world thought a Lionel Messi fan was joking when he boasted on Twitter about running on the pitch during USA vs. Argentina.
Michael Soto, an Argentina supporter and huge Messi fan, obviously, took to Twitter during the eventual 4-0 Argentina victory to outline his plan for getting on the pitch and having Messi sign his swag:
It’s going to be second half. That’s where it’s all going to go down! #argvsusa

The nerves are hitting me but I have to pull through#argvsusa

It’s a lot harder than I expected

Pull through, indeed. Soto ran onto the pitch, dropped to his knees and had enough time to get the desired autograph before security arrived to take him away. Messi even remembered to give Soto the marker back.

While this isn’t behavior anyone should applaud, especially for fear of copycats, it’s funny nonetheless. In the new world of social media, it was going to happen sooner or later, so at least it happened without major incident.
Expect beefed up security at all events moving forward, with this well-documented event used as a teaching point.
