Report: Lions to sign Justin Forsett

With Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve and rookie Dwayne Washington dealing with an ankle injury, the running-back needy Detroit Lions are signing Justin Forsett, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Forsett was released by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month after losing his starting job to Terrance West. In two-plus seasons with the Ravens, Forsett rushed for 2,005 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also played in the 2015 Pro Bowl as an alternate after rushing for a career-high 1,266 and eight touchdowns in 2014.

Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner are the other running backs on the roster, both of whom are 25 years old. Forsett, who turns 31 on Friday, is the veteran of the group with nine years of experience under his belt.
