Tyler Eifert still could play Sunday against Cowboys

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis hasn’t ruled out Tyler Eifert for Sunday’s game at Dallas.

The tight end is working his way back from an ankle injury, but hurt his back Wednesday at practice.

Still, Lewis told Sirius XM via NFL.com that the team will “see where he is” and that there’s still a chance Eifert can make his season debut Sunday.

Eifert’s replacement, C.J. Uzomah, has 11 catches this season on 22 targets with no touchdowns. The Bengals are last in the league with a red zone touchdown percentage of 30.77 according to Team Rankings. Last season, 11 of Eifert’s 13 touchdown catches came in the red zone.

The Bengals (2-2) shouldn’t hold their breath on Eifert for this Sunday, but they need him back sooner rather than later. They’re already a game behind both the Steelers and Ravens in the AFC North. After visiting Dallas in Week 5, they go to New England in Week 6. Eifert’s return could help the Bengals weather this brutal juncture of their schedule.
