Watch: Nebraska receiver makes college football’s catch of the year

When it’s the first week of college football, it’s silly to get overly excited about what happens during the initial slate of games. Good games will be had, but for the most part, the best moments still await down the road.

That won’t likely be the case in the competition for catch of the year. Nebraska’s Jordan Westerkamp has already claimed that title.

On a tipped pass near the sideline, Westerkamp reached behind him at the last second with the football approaching. Just barely keeping his feet in bounds, he corralled the ball behind his back and pulled it tightly to his hip, gaining possession as he slipped out of bounds.

The 22nd-ranked Cornhuskers were already pummeling Florida Atlantic in a predictable blowout. Westerkamp was the unquestionable player of the game with 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. But no one could have predicted what the sophomore wideout would do next.

There are still a lot of games to be played this season in college football, however it would be tough to bet on any receiver making a more spectacular catch.
