Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier open Oilers’ new arena with lap (VIDEO)

The best way to open the Edmonton Oilers’ new arena, Rogers Place, was to bring in two former players that created so many memories at the old one.

Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky were part of a 40-minute-long ceremony before Wednesday’s game against the Flames, and they took a lap in front of the fans for old time’s sake.

It seemed to fire the team up, as they exploded on offense in a 7-4 victory. The Oilers’ young stars are beginning to come into their own.
