With the International Champions Cup Looming, Europe’s Top Soccer Clubs Gear up to Play Across the US

It’s been a busy year for soccer fans in the United States. Copa America Centenario took the nation by storm in June, as thousands flocked to stadiums across the country for the opportunity to see South America’s top soccer stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez play in their own backyard. Luckily for soccer buffs, the summer madness isn’t over, as the International Champions Cup (ICC) is set to begin later this month, which is sure to put the country in a soccer frenzy once again.

The ICC is a series of club football friendlies with matches taking place in Australia, China, Europe, and the United States. Featuring some of the world’s top soccer teams, the United States edition will consist of Chelsea, Leicester City, and Liverpool, of the Premier League (England), Paris Saint-Germain of Ligue 1 (France), Bayern Munich of Bundesliga (Germany), Inter Milan and AC Milan of Serie A (Italy), and Real Madrid of La Liga (Spain).

Like Copa America, games are set to take place at large stadiums across the nation. According to data from the TicketNetwork Exchange, the most sought after tickets are for the August 3 match between FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Taking place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, fans are paying $180 on average to see the teams faceoff, with tickets listed no lower than $100 each.

While all of the games during the two-week competition are sure to be exciting, a match to watch for will take place on July 30 between Paris Saint-Germain and Leicester City FC at the StubHub Center outside of Los Angeles. For those who don’t know, Leicester City FC are the most recent champions of the Premier League, finishing the season with 81 points (23-12-3), an incredible 10 points ahead of 2nd place Arsenal. The club was promoted from the Football League Championship to the Premier League for the 2014-15 season, which they finished in 14th place, having only won 11 games throughout the 38 game season. Entering the 2015-16 season as extreme underdogs, they defeated all odds and finished in first place, propelling the team to international stardom.
