George O’Leary wants spring scrimmages versus other teams

A few of the members of The Student Section talked about this very subject a few weeks ago when we talked about things we would change about spring football.

Here’s what UCF head coach George O’Leary thinks about spring games and the possibility of scrimmaging against other teams…

“I get so much more out of practice than I do out of a spring game,” O’Leary said following Saturday’s scrimmage at Bright House Networks Stadium.

O’Leary explained he would prefer to scrimmage against another opponent — preferably one from the state of Florida. He said he would allow teams to travel by bus and then give the money raised from the game to charity.

“I would much rather see the competition level improve that way, where you can make a true evaluation to where you are at,” he said. “I think it would be a lot of fun.”

While not a popular viewpoint among a lot of coaches, O’Leary said he plans to bring it up at the American Athletic Conference spring meetings later next month.
