Hugh Freeze is on the “spring games against other teams” bandwagon

Earlier this off-season, a couple of our writers (myself including) discussed the desire to see spring football games changed to scrimmages against opposing teams. UCF head coach George O’Leary agreed with us.

According to the Clarion Ledger, Ole Miss front-man Hugh Freeze is also in favor of this and plans to bring it up at the SEC’s spring meetings:

“I would love to see us be able to scrimmage another team. That way you can go ones on ones, twos on twos, threes on threes – really get something out of it,” Freeze recently told A to Z Sports on ESPN radio Nashville. “Maybe even adopt a charity. Maybe it’s a 1-AA opponent that you don’t play in the regular season. I think there would be a lot of interest in something like that. I wish we could do something like that.”

Freeze, who said before the Grove Bowl that he’d vote to get rid of spring games in a “heartbeat,” hopes to bring up his idea during the Southeastern Conference’s spring meetings in Destin, Florida.

Interesting, I wonder what kind of death stare Nick Saban will give him when he starts talking about this…
