San Francisco 27, New York Giants 20 – Hello San Francisco by Buddy Guy

The 49ers are 8-1… who woulda thought! Not Joe Montana, not Steve Young either. The same old Alex Smith is the starting QB for the 49ers and yet they are 8-1!

Jim Harbaugh has done one heck of a job on the Bay building a team that has been consistent and played solid football on both sides of the ball.

The 49ers run D still hasn’t surrendered a touchdown on the ground, and the defense stepped up when it was needed to prevent Eli Manning from leading another comeback.

Alex Smith showed up when he was needed by his squad, connecting with Vernon Davis on a long TD strike.

The 49ers continue to impress the nation as it would appear they are on track for a first round bye in the playoffs. This is a tough loss for a pretty good Giants team.

Arizona 21, Philadelphia 17 – Dust In the Wind by Kansas

The team formally known as the “dream” team is now just dust in the wind as the demise of the Eagles continued in a big way this week. The bad news started early Sunday morning as DeSean Jackson was suspended for the game by the team for missing a meeting. Things just continued south from there.

Michael Vick matured as a player last year and became a smarter football player, decreasing his interceptions and relying more on his arm than his feet. He did not look like that player this week as the pretty mediocre Cardinals defense was able to hold this Eagles offense from making the big play.

When Michael Vick is outplayed by John Skelton you know things have gone REALLY bad in Philly.

Skelton hasn’t garnered much respect, but he might have started a QB controversy this week in Arizona. He connected with Larry Fitz for two scores, looking poised and cool against what has been a disappointing Eagles defense.

As the game ended the crowd started a “Fire Andy” chant. Could Andy Reid’s time in Philadelphia come to an end this season?

Dallas 44, Buffalo 7 – Blaze of Glory by Bon Jovi

Tony Romo had one heck of a Sunday: 23/26 270 yards and 3 TDs!

Romo looked just awesome, hooking up with Dez Bryant on a beautiful deep pass in the end zone and then Laurent Robinson twice. The Cowboys offense didn’t miss a beat without Miles Austin.

Demarco Murray had another standout game with 130 yards and a touchdown. This Cowboy team has started to roll, and if this offense can keep it up they will be a major player in the NFC East.

It appears the feel-good story Buffalo Bills have hit rock bottom as back to back losses now puts them in a really rough spot in the AFC playoff picture. Don’t be surprised if this team completely flops to a 7-9 or 8-8 record.

New Orleans 26, Atlanta 23 – Thank You By Led Zeppelin

This was another classic Saints-Falcons showdown. After a very closely played game, the Falcons found themselves down 3 and needing a 2 minute drill from Matt Ryan.

Ryan led the Falcons down the field with what appeared to be ease as the Falcons came back to bring the game into overtime.  Atlanta won the toss and obviously elected to receive. Old “mo” was on Atlanta’s side in a place Matt Ryan usually doesn’t lose.

However Atlanta’s offense stalled and was faced with a 4rth and inches. In their own territory on the 29 yard line the Falcons bizarrely elected to go for it.  Sean Peyton and the Saints should be very appreciative as they stopped the Falcons and kicked a game winning field goal.

Seattle 22, Baltimore 17 – I Can’t Explain by the Who

The Ravens, coming off an emotional giant W against the Steelers, played down to their opponent just like they did after their last big win over Pittsburgh in Tennessee. And again in Arizona just two weeks ago.

As bad as Seattle can be, you can never take them lightly at home. Behind the legs of Marshawn “put the team on his back” Lynch, Seattle was able to come up with a huge upset.

The Ravens were plagued with turnovers and were not able to overcome them and it led to a pretty devastating loss.

Just when it looked like the Ravens were starting to gain a controlling lead in their division they blow a game like this.

This one will be hard to explain to the fans !

Chicago 37 Detroit 13 – Let It Rain by the Eric Clapton

When the Lions were 5-0, everyone thought this team was for real. Flash forward to this week and the Lions appear to be a long shot to even make the playoffs. Their 2-1 division record gives them a slight tiebreaker over the Bears, but the three games yet to come will have much to say about that.

The Bears flat out dominated and outplayed the Lions on both sides of the field. Matthew Stafford struggled mightily throwing 2 pick 6’s to a hungry Bears D.

Jay Cutler once again looked solid in a winning effort. These two teams didn’t even to appear to be on the same level. This win was huge from the Bears who made a huge statement! The Lions also made a pretty big statement: that they are overrated.
