I Know It’s Only Rock N Roll But I Like It: NFL Week 9 Recap

Green Bay 45, San Diego 38 – My Hero By the Foo Fighters

Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL right now. This isn’t a debate or a topic up for discussion. This is a fact.

Aaron Rodgers put up a passer rating of 145.8 vs. SD, his 8th straight game at 110+, an NFL record streak for a single season. Rodgers was nothing but surgical once again as he connected with 4 different players on TD passes. As Tina Turner would say: “He’s simply the best, better then all the rest!”

As if the Packers offense needed any help, the defense helped up putting up 2 pick 6’s.

Philip Rivers played how he has all season, put up all kinds of yards and played a decent game. However, turnovers continue to plague him as he threw 3 INT’s. Rivers almost lead the Chargers back after recovering an onside kick, but their final rally fell short.

It was an exciting shout out in San Diego, but no one beats Aaron Rodgers. At least not this year as the Pack improves to 8-0.

Watch out 72’ Dolphins, this team is for real!

New York Giants 24, New England 20 – New York State of Mind by Billy Joel

In a Super Bowl rematch once again Eli Manning outdid Tom Brady!

There is one way to slow down Tom Brady and that’s to create a healthy pass rush and the Giants certainly are pretty good at doing that.  The Patriots were not able to get a running game started and as result put the game all on Tom Brady’s shoulders who nearly had the game won until he left too much time on the clock for Eli Manning.

Earlier in the season Eli Manning was asked if he feels he is an elite QB and he said yes. Well he certainly showed it this week. With the game on the line and less than 2 minutes to go, he led his squad down the field with the game’s final score.

Even more impressive from the Giants is that they were able to win this game without Hakeem Nicks or Ahmad Bradshaw, debatably their two biggest playmakers on offense.

Baltimore 23, Pittsburgh 20 – Stayin Alive by the Bee Gee’s

It was late in the 4th quarter and most doubted that Joe Flacco could bring these Ravens back and it seemed like Pittsburgh was on their way to a huge division lead. But Joe Cool helped the Ravens stay alive in a beautiful game-winning 4th quarter drive that finished in the hands of Torrey Smith for a touchdown.

The Ravens led most of the game until dropping the lead late in the game. It looks like the Steelers were the comeback heroes of the day. But then Torrey Smith, who was a goat most of the game, made it up for it to seal the W for the Ravens.

Before Smith’s game winning grab, he had been called for a critical holding penalty and had a dropped TD but the Ravens stuck with the kid and it certainly paid off.

The Ravens now improve to 2-0 on the season against the Steelers. Flacco takes a big monkey off his shoulder with 2 wins against Big Ben this year.

Miami 31, Kansas City 3 – Who Are You by the Who

Let me start by saying I am a diehard Dolphins fan and I couldn’t figure out who this Dolphins team were this past Sunday. They dominated offensively, defensively and even on special teams all game against a team that was a division leader going in.

On the other side coming off a huge Monday Night win against the Chargers, the Chiefs offense looked anaemic and the defense couldn’t get any pressure on Matt Moore as the Phins walked all over them from start to finish.

Tony Sparano has had a tough year so this one has to feel good for him as he watched Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush become the players he probably envisioned they would be this off-season.

On a sour note this might take Miami out of the Suck For Luck sweepstakes. The Andrew Luck power rankings will be up on Tuesday!

Denver 38 Oakland 24- Jesus Is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers

While there might be some games that are more deserving to be recapped, anytime Tim Tebow gets the W he is gonna be here. Tebow mania probably going wild right now as Timmy improves to 2-1 on the season in a game where he actually played quite well.

Tebow threw for 2 touchdowns and 0 INT’s. On the other sideline, Carson Palmer still fully hasn’t found his way with the Raiders offense as he had another 3 INT game. At least he managed three touchdown passes to go along with them and keep Oakland in the game until late.

The Broncos really helped out Tebow as old man Willis McGahee rushed for 162 yards. Tebow added another 100+ on the ground and the Broncos run game had a breakout game against what was thought to be a tough Raiders D.

New York Jets 27, Buffalo 11 – Bennie and the Jets by The Diabolical Biz Markie

Rex and the Jets probably would have been more appropriate, but I’m not going to ask Elton John to change up his song so I’ll have to settle with this version, purely for New York.

Rex Ryan had his defense ready to play this week as the New York Jets are starting to creep back into the AFC playoff picture. With a Pats loss this week and this head-tohead win against the division leading Bills, the Jets picked up serious ground in the AFC East.

Revis pretty much had Stevie Johnson shadowed most of the game, helping slow down the Bills offense. Key fumbles from Fred Jackson certainly did not help.

This was a big test for the Bills and I wouldn’t say they really passed with flying colors. Buffalo could be in serious trouble with a tough schedule up ahead… I’m not sure if this team will be able to hang on to a playoff spot.

Editor’s Note: Daniel’s article had the original Elton John version, but I called an audible here. The Biz rocked this song like no other, before or since. Seemed fitting for Mark Sanchez’ unusually effective performance.
