Carolina Panthers to make trip to Kansas City according to report

Despite today's tragedy involving Jovan Belcher's apparent homicide, suicide, the NFL has advised the Carolina Panthers to make the trip to Kansas City as planned according to Joe Person.

Considering the NFL's history of canceling games only in the most extreme of circumstances, it's unsurprising that this game will be played, although it seems surprising that the game has not been at least pushed back to Monday instead of its time slot of 1 PM tomorrow.

According to a Kansas City Police spokesman, Belcher spoke with head coach Romeo Crennel, general manager Scott Pioli and another unnamed Chiefs staff member before shooting himself.

Considering the circumstances, it seems likely that Roger Goodell is still weighing his options for this football game. Asking Carolina to make the trip to Kansas City keeps the league's options open, but it doesn't necessarily mean the game will be played on Sunday, or played at all this week. Expect to hear more from the league later in the day.
