Ex-NFL player Cedrick Wilson faces very serious charges today as he's been indicted on charges of wire fraud and Social Security fraud according to TimesUnion.com.
Wilson, who had hoped to be a school teacher, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, allegedly paid someone to take the PRAXIS, a teacher certification test, for him.
Four others have already pleaded guilty in the test-taking scandal, and Wilson is one of 14 others who have been indicted on fraud charges. The cheating ring allegedly included veteran teachers taking tests for aspiring teachers.
Wilson was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, where he four seasons, although he never caught a pass during his rookie year. During his final three years with the team, Wilson's stats slowly climbed, topping out in 2004 with 47 receptions and 641 yards.
In 2005, Wilson signed with the Steelers where he played his final three years in the league. His best year with Pittsburgh came in 2006 when he caught 37 passes for 504 yards. The Steelers cut Wilson in the offseason in 2008 after Wilson was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in a restaurant in the Pittsburgh area.
TimesUnion.com reported that Wilson has been a substitute teacher as well as a volunteer football coach for the Memphis School system, and his job status remains unclear at this point.
