Colts Hire Bruce Arians As New Offensive Coordinator

The first major hire by Indianapolis Colts head coach, Chuck Pagano, has seemingly been made. According to Adam Schefter, Bruce Arians has agreed to be the Colts new offensive coordinator. According to Schefter, Arians will be flying to Indianapolis on Monday to review and sign his new contract. The terms are not yet known.

Bruce Arians, as you recall, was forced out of Pittsburgh following their disappointing playoff loss to the Denver Broncos. Arians had been with the Steelers since 2004 originally filling the role of wide receivers coach. He had been the Steelers’ offensive coordinator since 2007.

Arians will likely be entrusted with the responsibility of developing Andrew Luck as he becomes the new face of the Colts. As Pagano is a defensive coach, the full weight of the offense will fall on Arians’ shoulders to show progression, especially following the unit’s disappointing 2011 campaign.

One of the complaints about Arians from Steelers fans was his apparent lack of creativity. Considering the great success the Colts had with Peyton Manning essentially running the offense from the line of scrimmage, it’ll be interesting to see if Arians installs a similar offense with Andrew Luck. The situation would become even more enthralling if the Colts choose to retain Peyton Manning as their starting quarterback.
