Namath: Sanchez is “much better” than Tim Tebow

Joe Namath has made a point of making controversial comments and doing questionable things. Most famous of those “things” I speak of came when Namath attempted to put his moves on sideline reporter Suzy Kolber. For a trip down memory lane, I included the video below.

That incident, however comical it may be, is not the topic today. Namath is now describing Mark Sanchez as “sensational” according to Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger. Namath also went on to say,

“There’s no doubt about it, there’s no doubt about it at all. At this point, certainly. And Mark’s going to get better. He’s going into his fourth year. Golly, I remember a team that won a championship with a quarterback in his fourth year. I hope it happens again.”

Now I don’t know many people that really take what Joe Namath says completely seriously. He’s well known for having a flair for the dramatic, and this is no different than his average rants.

The Jets currently have two quarterbacks, which means they really don’t have any quarterbacks in my very humble opinion. Quarterback competitions are great, but quarterback controversies are never productive. In the Jets’ case, they likely go hand-in-hand. I agree with Namath that Sanchez is better than Tim Tebow, but to call Sanchez “sensational” seems a bit rash. In my world, I wait for a quarterback to produce consistently and productively on the field before I name him the next big thing, but hey, that’s just me.
