Regardless of how Brett Favre’s last 3 seasons in the NFL played out, he will always be remembered as a member of the Green Bay Packers. He was without a doubt one of that franchise’s best players of all time, and it appears that the Packers will indeed be retiring Brett Favre’s jersey, #4, in “a year or two.”
Lori Nickel of the Journal Sentinel spoke with Mark Murphy, the president of the Green Bay Packers. She dropped a meaningful tweet about the exchange as well.

This is one of those situations where you really do have to read between the lines to find the true meaning of what Murphy was talking about. We all knew that the Packers would retire Favre’s number eventually. The fact that the president of the team doesn’t have a definite time frame in mind tells us a little bit about the situation.
First, and most importantly, there’s still some emotions that run through the halls in Green Bay when Favre’s name is mentioned. Favre left the team in the worst possible way, and I’m sure not everyone has completely moved on from the two sides’ falling out. It would seem that the team is waiting until the smoke has completely cleared to immortalize their former great. I wasn’t a fan of the way Favre handled his last few years in the NFL, and I really don’t know many people that thought it was a classy way to go about his business, but the man is a Packers legend, and his final years shouldn’t take anything away from that in the long run. Few players in NFL history deserved to have their numbers retired more than Brett Favre.
