Former Giants receiver Amani Toomer sang the praises of Tony Romo this week. “Tony Romo is probably – if you look at him statistically – he’s probably the best quarterback in the NFC East,” Toomer said as co-host with Tim Ryan on ‘Move the Chains’ on SIRIUS radio. “I mean, you look at Eli Manning and what he does in the fourth quarter. But you talk about consistency . . . talk about 31 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions. That guy can play.” When pushed for a comparison to Eli Manning, Toomer countered, ” if I wanted a guy that is going to throw (fewer) interceptions and be more productive, higher completion percentage, I’m going to go with Tony Romo.”
Yes, Romo throws fewer interceptions than Manning does, but he is castigated for his performance in the clutch. Manning is praised for that.
Toomer acknowledged that he forgot that Manning played in the NFC East, so take his thoughts for what they are worth. If he were auditioning for a job as a football analyst, you’d have to call this an epic fail.
Even with Hakeem Nicks’ injury and with Mario Manningham off the roster, wide receiver Domenik Hixon is on the bubble to make the team writes Aaron Klein of Rant Sports. Hixon once showed great promise, but has been hobbled by injuries the past two seasons. Second round draft pick Rueben Randle and second year player Jerrel Jernigan will push him for a roster spot.
Former Giants running back Derrick Ward announced via Twitter that he was retiring from pro football.
To all my fans just wanted to let u know its been a great ride the last 9yrs but I’m calling it a career. I thank u all for believing in me!

Ward spent the last two seasons on the Houston Texans roster, but could not supplant Arian Foster and Ben Tate for playing time, echoing his life in New York when he could not beat out Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. The Texans did not want him back.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is upset with the two New York pro teams that play in New Jersey. The Jersey Giants and Jersey Jets sued to stop construction of a shopping mall near their new publicly supported stadium. “It’s not the way business should be done,” says the governor. Yeah, that’s what I always heard about Jersey. Expect an offer you cannot refuse any day now.
