Steven Jackson to be a free agent following 2012

Steven Jackson's contract will likely be void after this season, making Jackson an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

According to Pete Prisco of CBS, the Rams will allow Jackson to void his contract following this season, even though he hasn't reached the incentives required for him to do so.

The move is strange to say the least, considering he's the Rams' most recognizable player.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that the Rams are trying to move on to a new era with Sam Bradford as their centerpiece.

At this point, it doesn't really matter why the Rams are content with allowing Steven Jackson out of his contract. The important thing is that he'll likely be one of the top free agents next offseason.
