After so many downs and so few ups, Jaguars third-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert may be getting ready to make his last push to remain an NFL starting quarterback.
In relief for Blaine Gabbert, who suffered a throwing hand injury in week one, backup Chad Henne was nothing short of terrible, giving the Jaguars little hope for a better tomorrow. Largely because Henne did nothing to impress coaches, the Jaguars will turn to Blaine Gabbert this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.
While Blaine Gabbert's career record is atrocious, his record against the Indianapolis Colts is a respectable 3-1. Granted, the Colts look, at the moment, better than they've been since Peyton Manning's departure, but Gabbert needs all the feel-good memories he can find.
In addition, the Jaguars are about to get their best receiver back from his four game suspension. Following the Colts game, Justin Blackmon will be eligible to jump into the Jaguars huddle and help out a team that seems unable to score points.
The Jaguars are in no position to be even thinking about the playoffs, but once Blaine Gabbert returns, their mindset should be on hitting the reset button on 2013. The Jaguars are terrible, and everyone, including myself, has already counted them out. If they can somehow finish the season with a 7-9 record, it would be a huge step in the right direction. With Blaine Gabbert, they have some hope, however little, of doing that. With Henne, there's no hope at all.
