Jim Schwartz confident despite Lions’ 2012 campaign

Jim Schwartz is as confident as ever, not that he's ever lacked confidence, but for some reason, he feels great about his team.

"We have tangible reasons to be optimistic," Schwartz said at a press conference. "I’m the most confident I’ve been in four years here as the head coach. We’re confident in our players, we’re confident in our system. I like where this team is, and we’re looking forward to having a good training camp.

"The players have been able to focus more on football over the last six months, and that’s been beneficial for them."

There's no doubt Schwartz in on to something with that point. The Lions as a team have been oddly absent in this offseason's stream of NFL arrest news, which should allow the team to focus more on football than staying out of jail.

In addition, Schwartz is expecting the team's young players to jump right in, contributing to the team.

"They weren't drafted to find their way or redshirt or things like that," Schwartz continued. "They were drafted with very specific purpose in mind."

So, are the Lions so much better that Jim Schwartz should be exuding confidence? No, not really, but the Lions weren't a bad roster last season. A year ago, it was all about discipline issues. Maybe Jim Schwartz feels better about having his team under control this time around. If that's the case, there's certainly reason for optimism in Detroit.
