The Arizona Cardinals are the best team no one is talking about

In a league characterized by teams that have been there, done that, the Arizona Cardinals are trying to do something that rarely happens. Their task is simple; they’re trying to take the league by surprise.

When you stop and consider the Cardinals as a team, their chances seem as good as anyone else’s. The Cardinals field a tough, young defense that can win games single handedly from time to time, and with a little offensive support, they can play with the best teams in the league.

On offense, the Cardinals made a huge gain this offseason by simply adding a quarterback to their roster that has won games in the past and can get the ball to their playmakers, especially Larry Fitzgerald.

Now, there’s no doubt that the Cardinals won’t garner much attention early in the season. They play in a division with two of the best young quarterbacks in the league, but with a string of wins, they could start turning heads.

Still, the Cardinals’ best asset may not be a player at all. Last year, in spite of a great deal of adversity, Bruce Arians led the Colts to a playoff berth. Frankly, the Colts weren’t a playoff caliber roster, but at the end of it all, they found themselves in the tournament.

Cardinals fans are hoping Arians can bring that same mentality to Arizona. Arians is no young coach with delusions of grandeur. He knows what his team can do, and he knows how to push them in the right direction.

The Cardinals may be one of the up and comers as the season progresses, so don’t be surprised if they’re playing meaningful games late in the season. With a little luck Bruce Arians may get his new team back to the playoffs in the same way he got the Colts there last year.
