For a bit of fun on a Wednesday afternoon, let's shake up our routines with a bit of a controversial declaration. Yes, you read the title correctly. I think it's more likely that Vince Young plays in the NFL in the coming season than Tim Tebow.
Before I outline this argument, I want to qualify what I mean by "playing" in the NFL. I mean that Vince Young is more likely to play 2+ quarters in a single game as the quarterback, of his team than Tim Tebow. This means being the guy taking all the snaps, not just in situational play.
The big problem with Tim Tebow is that he just doesn't fit into any one system. He's mobile, but he can't throw the ball nearly enough to play as a mobile quarterback. He runs the ball well, but he's been reluctant to change positions. He's been a media darling, but the fact of the matter is that NFL personnel people and coaches don't seem willing to take their chances with Tebow.
By contrast, Vince Young can play the quarterback position, and at times, he plays it very well. His detracting factor is that he can't seem to keep his emotions in check, and that ultimately led him to the point he's at now. In an offseason where quarterbacks are at an absolute premium, it seems likely that some team will take a chance on signing Vince Young as a backup.
Make no mistake about it, Vince Young won't be the listed starter for any team this season. He'll be relying on someone to get injured to play in any meaningful situations, but that chance, in my mind, is greater than the chance that Tim Tebow finds his way onto the playing field for more than a play or two at a time.
To drive home the idea that Tebow won't see the field much in 2013, consider this. Tim Tebow played in 12 games last season, yet he ran and threw for a combined 141 yards.
