New renderings of the weird-looking Falcons stadium scheduled to open in 2017

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has new renderings of the crazy-ass stadium the Falcons are building, which is supposed to be ready for 2017. And it’s safe to say they’re going for the hardcore futuristic look.

That has a serious World Cup feel to it, doesn’t it? Why does every “innovative” new stadium have to look like some kind of steel nest?

atl2

I’m down with the big hole in the middle because it helps you to maintain an open-air feel while keeping your fans from melting on hot September afternoons. That said, if the actual plan is to use a hashtag within the edges of said sunroof, I’m never talking to the Falcons again.

atl3

So many blunt edges!

atl4

All of a sudden the crystals are blue.

atl5

Remember, this is 2017 — after the impending ghost apocalypse.

atl6

And yet this thing is only 22 years old…

atl7

Whatever. I’m not a Georgia taxpayer.
