Buffalo Bills name Tyrod Taylor their starting QB

Tyrod Taylor came into training camp as a long shot to win the starting quarterback job, but the Buffalo Bills have officially named him their Week 1 starter. He was able to beat out both Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel, and is ready to be given the first big chance of his entire career.

Rex Ryan was open to starting whoever came through with the best training camp and preseason performances, and there was no question that Taylor was their guy. Cassel certainly didn’t show any consistency, and Manuel had one stellar game and the rest was fairly disappointing. Taylor was consistent throughout the entire process and gives the Bills a threat through the air or on the ground.

Throughout the four years that Taylor played with the Baltimore Ravens, he was never given much of a chance with Joe Flacco in front of him. He was a very dependable backup, but simply didn’t see the field very much.

Buffalo doesn’t need Taylor to come in and be a superstar. They have LeSean McCoy, who is expected to be the main workhorse of their offense this season, and plenty of talented targets around Taylor. He simply needs to take care of the football and make plays through the air here and there while taking advantage of his athleticism and speed on the ground.

It will be interesting to see how the first few weeks as the starter go for Taylor. He is a perfect fit in the Bills’ offense, and Ryan knows how to put his players in the best positions for them to succeed.

Needless to say, this decision should excite the Bills’ fan base. Taylor brings a unique skill-set to the table that will help confuse and defeat opposing defenses. He may not have the experience or the name that many would hope for, but he certainly has enough talent to make a name for himself with the Bills.

Expect to see Taylor hit the ground running to open the season and have a big game against the Colts in Week 1. He may not be a superstar this season, but he will be the type of game manager that can help get the Bills into the playoffs. Don’t underestimate his arm either, as he is more than capable of making some big throws down the field.
