Cleveland Browns, Montee Ball discussing potential contract

The Cleveland Browns and free agent running back Montee Ball are reportedly discussing a potential contract. There is no denying the fact that the Browns could use some help at the running back position this year, especially after dealing away talented young running back Terrance West. According to a report from Mary Kay Cabot, Ball has had conversations with quite a few teams but hasn’t decided where to sign yet.

Needless to say, Ball would be a very nice pickup for the Browns. They are currently heading into the 2015 season with just Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson on their running back depth chart.

There is a good chance that Ball could slide into the system very quickly and earn playing time. He was at one time considered to be a future star in the NFL, but he simply wasn’t able to live up to the potential that the Denver Broncos saw in him. Cleveland could help him get a fresh start, but there is always the chance that he wouldn’t fit well there either.

At just 24 years old, there is no doubt that Ball can turn things around very quickly and get his career back on track.

During the two seasons that he played with the Broncos, Ball recorded 731 yards and five touchdowns on 175 carries. He is a very quick running back who is capable of being a threat out of the backfield as a receiver as well. Ball certainly could earn a third-down back role with the Browns, although that would depend on how much playing time they want to give to Johnson in his rookie year.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors come out about Ball over the course of the next few days. Ball won’t take too long to make his decision, but there is a good chance that it won’t be the Browns when everything is said and done. Don’t be surprised to see another team swoop in and get a deal done with him, but also don’t be shocked if he chooses the Browns as his next team.
