Eagles agree to four-year, $29 million extension with Mychal Kendricks

The Philadelphia Eagles were rumored to be interested in trading linebacker Mychal Kendricks throughout the majority of the offseason, That didn’t end up being true, and the Eagles have made a move to keep him around long-term. According to a report from Jay Glazer, the Eagles have agreed to a four-year, $29 million extension with Kendricks.

Kendricks is without question worthy of that extension, and if shows that the Eagles really do want to keep him around long-term. It would have been a mistake to deal him, and it seems now that the media was trying to make a big deal out of nothing for the majority of the offseason.

During the 2014 season with the Eagles, Kendricks ended up recording 83 tackles, three forced fumbles and 4.0 sacks. He put those numbers up in just 12 games, which shows just how dominant he is capable of being. Kendricks is one of the leaders for the Philadelphia defense, and Chip Kelly will be relying on him heavily to come through with a big year.

At just 24 years old, Kendricks hasn’t even come close to reaching his full potential. He is without question capable of putting up plenty more big numbers throughout his career.

That being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of production he has during the 2015 season. Now that he has been paid the big bucks, it will be easier for him to sit back and take a break. He can’t afford to do that, however, and needs to use this entire situation as motivation to become an even better player for the Eagles.

Expect to see him continue improving and be a cornerstone defensively for the Eagles moving forward.
