Eagles still aggressively trying to trade QB Matt Barkley

Matt Barkley showed quite a bit of improvement for the Eagles throughout the first two preseason games that he has played, but Chip Kelly may not decide to keep him around. According to a report from Dianna Marie Russini, the Eagles are still looking to trade the second-year quarterback out of USC.

During tonight’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, Barkley threw for 86 yards. It wasn’t as good as his first preseason game, but there is still obvious improvement in his game.

At 24 years old, there are quite a few teams that could use a young quarterback with some potential. Barkley may never end up being a legitimate NFL starter, but there is a chance that he could become that type of guy with the right coaching. He certainly had a lot of hype surrounding him during his collegiate career.

Philadelphia will likely find a team willing to bite on a trade before the trade deadline comes and goes. Barkley is too intriguing of an asset for teams to continue passing on for too much longer. Assuming he can continue having solid outings over the next two weeks, there will be teams willing to give up something of value to get him.

It will be interesting to see which teams begin showing interest in acquiring him first.

Expect to see Barkley’s name continue coming up in trade rumors over the next two weeks. Kelly obviously is trying to make a roster spot to keep Tim Tebow in town, and it is likely the right move for him and his team. Barkley’s future in Philadelphia doesn’t look all that bright, and it is only a matter of time before he’s on his way out of town.
