Houston Texans will feature on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this season

It’s official, the Houston Texans are set to be on Hard Knocks this season. The Texans were one of three finalists being considered for the show, “winning out” over the Bills and Redskins. Of the three franchises, insights into the disaster that’s been the Redskins in the Dan Snyder era might have been the most entertaining, but the Texans should turn out to be a good choice. For starters, the team has good personalities and talent on their roster with players like J. J. Watt, Arian Foster, Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Cushing and Vince Wilfork. They’ll also be going through camp with a quarterback battle between Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett and Tom Savage which should make for an interesting dynamic of unknowns.

Most importantly, it will likely be eye opening for the casual NFL fan to watch Texans head coach Bill O’Brien lead his troops. O’Brien has developed a good reputation in a short time for the job he did at Penn State taking over completely broken program and creating some stability. In his first season in the NFL, he helped turn around the Texans’ fortunes from the worst team in the league to a 9-7 season. His leadership will be on full display and it should make for must watch TV for the average football fan. He’s also known as a quarterback developing specialist, which should add some intrigue to the camp battle at that position.

The show gives you an inside look at NFL training camps and player battling out for a spot on the 53 man roster. And while we should expect to see a lot from guys like Clowney, Watt and Foster – the show does focus on the younger player and the Texans are coming off a very good draft that features promising players like CB Kevin Johnson, LB Bernardrick McKinney and WR Jaelen Strong. Much to be exciting about if you’re a Texans fan or an NFL fan in general.
