New York Jets trade for Brandon Marshall

This is becoming quite the off season for trades, isn’t it? Over the last couple of days there have been murmurs of Brandon Marshall possibly getting cut by the Chicago Bears. Now, after three years with the Bears, Marshall will be traded to the New York Jets.

The new brass, which was lukewarm at best when speaking about the wideout, has agreed to trade Marshall to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick pending a physical, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the move.

Marshall has seen his results decline in each of the last two years after he debuted for the Bears with 118 receptions in 2012. Last year, Marshall caught 61 passes with 8 touchdowns.

For the Jets, you would expect that this means the end to Percy Harvin’s days in New York (which has been rumored for weeks). Marshall will be paired with Eric Decker, who had 74 receptions in his debut season with the Jets.

For the Bears, this leaves them without a proven #2 receiver to pair with Alshon Jeffrey. Will they target a replacement in the draft (or free agency) or depend on one of their back-ups to step into a bigger role?

The most interesting aspect of this trade? Brandon Marshall in the Big Apple. Now that is going to be must see TV.
