NFL coaching hot seat tracker: Caldwell should be in trouble

Five weeks into the 2015 NFL regular season, one team is already using an interim head coach. But if these guys keep it up, Dan Campbell of the Dolphins might soon be joined by a few others. Here’s how we view the coaches who are in the greatest danger of being fired entering mid-October…

1. Jim Caldwell, Lions: Caldwell is a terrible head coach who was in the right place at the right time with the Colts in 2009 and has coasted on that ever since. These Lions are far too talented to be 0-5 and should probably soon consider blowing things up.

2. Gus Bradley, Jaguars: The Jags might not be good, but they’re not this bad either. With four losses in their first five games, they’re on track to record yet another double-digit-loss season. Bradley is now 8-29 as a head coach, and although he’s a defensive guru Jacksonville ranks 31st in the league in terms of points allowed.

3. Andy Reid, Chiefs: You can’t blame him for the Jamaal Charles injury, but Reid has been given ample time to get something done in Kansas City and the Chiefs have gotten progressively worse during his time there. He hasn’t been able to get much out of Alex Smith and it looks as though he’ll fail to win a playoff game for his seventh consecutive season as a head coach.

4. Sean Payton, Saints: There’s been talk of a potential trade, and the Saints front office probably respects Payton too much to fire him (especially during the season), but that’s quite a mess in New Orleans.

5. Jeff Fisher, Rams: Fisher probably bought himself a ton of time with that Week 1 victory over the Seahawks, and beating the Cardinals on the road in Week 4 certainly helped as well. Still, considering his track record he should be one solid slump away from a potential pink slip.
